We encourage parents to get involved with the program, by helping run the week. Junior Race Week was inspired by Mr & Mrs Commadore, who have seen a similar event grow so big back in their local Club in the UK, that over 250 sailors take part, with parents helping out as and when they can, but with the whole event run by volunteers. The week has up to 4 races a day, with evening activities for the youths to mingle and enjoy each other’s company. Basically there are two sections. The Dragons Fleets are for the more able sailors who will be doing up to four races each on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. They need to be at the Club before 9.30 each morning, with the first race starting at 11.00. They will be ferried back to the Club in the middle of the day for lunch and be ferried back to the race course as soon as they are finished for further racing. This section has two parts: The Red Dragon fleet sailing in Picos, and the Green Dragon fleet sailing in Lasers or Stratos. The second section is for those who are in the Wet Feet program and the races will be something very simple lasting about 30-45 minutes and will be sailed directly from one of the Club pontoons on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with the race starting at 11.30. They will need to be at the Club by 10.00 each day. After that finishes and they have had their lunch, the intention is to take them to Trio beach and have beach games for a little while before returning at the end of the afternoon, in time to take a shower and either be ready for collection at 5.00pm or to join in the evening events. On Wednesday we are planning a Sailaway day and a beach BBQ with all participants and parents/volunteers going to a local beach and having a good time together. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings we have something planned at the Club: Monday is a BBQ, Wednesday we have a Talent Night, and Friday evening will be a Prize Giving and Games night. All evening activities will start at about 6.00 and be finished by 8.00 at the latest. Again parents are encouraged to be a part of what's going on.
The intention is that parents should be involved at some stage during the week and we need volunteers for the following:
On the Water: Race Officer/Assistants for the Beginners Races in the middle of each day Safety Officer Safety Boat Drivers/Assistants
Launch and recovery of dinghies
Off the Water: Registration Beach Master (at the Club) Evening Entertainment/Sponsors Please download Overall Race Result from the link below : Download PDF
