RYA Powerboat Level 2 Training Course

This two-day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC).

It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. The course can be taken inland or on the coast and your certificate will be endorsed accordingly..

Requirements & Outcomes

Assumed knowledge: None 

Minimum duration: 2 days

Minimum age: 16 

Course content: Launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard

Ability after the course: Able to handle a powerboat in a familiar waters by day

Course rate: Members HK$3,300, Reciprocal Club Members (RHKYC/ABC/Club Lusitano) HK$3,630, Non-members HK$4,950

Structure: 9:30 am - 17:00 pm (2 Full Days)

RYA Safety Boat Training Course 

This two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying. It is strongly recommended that a member of the rescue crew should hold a first aid certificate (or should have experience of first aid).

Assumed knowledge: Powerboat Level 2 certificate required

Minimum duration: 2 days

Minimum age: 16

Course content: Recovery techniques for various craft and fleet management

Ability after the course: Able to provide safety cover in a racing or training environment
