Understanding Club Culture

Thank you for your interest in applying for membership at the Hebe Haven Yacht Club (HHYC). We’re pleased to provide you with an overview of the membership application process and some guidance to assist you.

The culture of our Club is shaped by our members, and it is our responsibility to uphold this culture for everyone’s enjoyment. Our activities are also governed by the requirements of our government lease, which prioritizes the promotion of competitive and recreational sailing to retain our lease.

Our main funding and support come from our members, alongside sponsorship from individuals and businesses involved in sailing activities. Therefore, active participation in the Club is vital for its long-term success.

The Club is managed by member sub-committees, and we encourage members to invest in the Club by participating in these committees where they have expertise.

Membership is governed by our Articles of Association and Byelaws. If your application is successful, you will be required to sign a confirmation agreeing to abide by these rules.

Facilities and Considerations

Our food and beverage (F&B) facilities are exclusively for members and their guests, serving as a support service for the Club’s primary activities.

Additionally, please consider the following:

  • Our allocation of marine berths, swing moorings, hardstands, and racking is currently at capacity, with a significant waiting list in all categories.
  • We do not accept applications with any commercial element, such as running a business using Club premises or facilities.
  • As with all clubs in Hong Kong operating under a Private Recreational Lease (PRL) administered by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau (CSTB), our PRL is subject to periodic renewal, with the next renewal due in 2027. While we are diligently preparing to meet and exceed CSTB requirements, we cannot guarantee renewal. In the unlikely event that our PRL is not renewed in 2027, the Club would have to cease operations, and no entrance fees will be refunded.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to your application!

Priority for Admission

As part of our obligations under our government lease, we are committed to promoting and supporting competitive and recreational sailing. This focus is essential for retaining our lease and ensuring the long-term viability of the Club.

Our primary funding and support come from our members, along with sponsorship from individuals and businesses involved in sailing activities. Therefore, active participation in the Club is crucial for its sustained success.

With these priorities in mind, we define our core membership as follows:

  • Individuals who sail or have sailing experience at any level and are eager to utilize the Club for sailing.
  • Those interested in learning to sail through our training programs and participating in social and competitive sailing events.
  • Users of powerboats and personal watercraft (jetskis) for recreational purposes.
  • Members willing to actively support the Club’s activities, including race management, instructing, and contributing to sub-committees. Participation in these areas is expected within your first year if your application is successful.

Consequently, priority will be given to applicants who align with one or more of these criteria.
